This student is the first in his family to set foot in a college. He is now pursuing his second year of engineering but the journey so far has been arduous. His father abandoned the family when he was seven years old and his mother struggled to make ends meet working as a daily wage earner. With the help of his teachers, he managed to pay his school fees and was encouraged to complete a diploma course with the support of staff in a local institute.
He secured a job in a company in Hosur but it was a small, contractual position and came to a close in six months. He tried to apply for various jobs but most of the positions needed more than a diploma. In order to improve his chances to secure work, he enrolled in an engineering programme but is struggling to pay the fees. A portion of the fee was met through a scholarship but he still needed to pay Rs. 17,500. He has managed to pay Rs. 8,000 and has made a request to Aalayam for the remaining Rs. 9,500 to help him continue his studies.
